Spring Fling Results
These guys are good... together. Club favorites Bobby Fanucci and
Matt Sorrentino have only one speed – fun. Weekly competitions means
weekly “days with the boys” and when you combine that attitude with
some decent golf you end up with great results and in this case a victory. 86 players anxiously
anticipated the new venue, Ballamor, and beautiful skies combined
with great greens made for a great day. While two-man best-ball
events are usually down to the wire close, the 2010 Spring Fling was
a little different, a runaway. Fannuch and Mattchew played
brilliantly as a tandem; however, rather than hole-by-hole stellar
play it was front nine/back nine stuff. Fannuch, a 19hdcp, moved
thru the front nine in 43 strokes than took a nap on the back while
Mattchew, a 22cap for the day, put up his own nifty 43 on the back.
Having waxed 5th place finishers Byrnes and Guerriero in
13 holes, all that was left to do was finish off the 4-shot victory,
collect the rewards and buy the drinks… nice job guys. There was a
3-way tie between Fern Fraga/John Murphy, Rudy Placenti/Ed Townsend,
teammates of the Champs, and Dick Tushingham/Bob Romano who all
finished four shots back.
On the gross side guest Larry Neville fired a superb 1-over par
37 on the front nine and cruised to a 5-shot victory (37-41=78) over
Harry VanDezilver (83) and Drew Murphy (83). While many of the top
players played well most of the way, big numbers were common on
the cards and took scores from the 70's to the 80's ... congrats to Larry
on a great round.
In other news, GCNJ Match-Play qualifier #1 is in the books and
while 20 players were separated by 2 shots, 14 earned spots in the
field. With 23 spots taken, 41 remain to be filled over the next 2
events. Also, Gene Goudy eagled the par-5 18th hole… two
shots and a putt… nice!!
