Ameriprise Financial ShootOut Results
Players teed it up on Sunday at the Wildwood Golf and
Country Club, knowing that one big putt could be worth one big
payday. As many struggled with the course, both from a
difficulty standpoint as well as some routing problems, eight
players would advance for a pressure packed tee shot and the chance for
a lifelong memory. The ShootOut, the original brainchild of John Tricker,
has become a special event on the GCNJ schedule and this year
was no exception. 2010 sponsor, Greg Jacobson of Ameriprise
Financial, took to the course in search of results and tracked
the players on their final nine. When the scorecards were
tallied, 73 (3-over par net), was the magic number and the real
games were about to begin. Eight players headed to the 160-yard
par-3 5th tee featuring a large green with bunkers on the right
and water fronting the green... oh and don't forget
lots of non-qualifying GCNJers surrounding the tee... I can tell you it
wasn't very quiet.
All eight competitors hit quality tee shots; however,
only two found the putting surface - Tom Berry and Stu
Silverstein. With both Silverstein and Nunes (right bunker off
tee) getting shots on the hole, it appeared that birdie would be
the only way to advance. Oshidar, Rocha, Madsen, Arnotte and
defending Shootout Champ Equals all played good second shots;
however, none could produce that magic 2 needed to move on.
Steve Nunes nearly holed his bunker shot, though and safely
tapped-in for a net birdie leaving only Berry and Silverstein to
produce. A near miss of Tom's 30-foot downhiller left it up to
the steely-eyed Silverstein. Confident he had the right line, Stuey stepped up and calmly drained the 15-footer, celebrating
with a quiet smile. Stu's FIRST BIRDIE OF THE YEAR earned him
$1000...tremendous!!
I'd like to once again thank John Tricker for his idea, Fred
Reidel, the host pro, for the golf course and Greg Jacobson
the tournament sponsor for providing a reason to get
excited. Please feel free to contact Greg directly for any
financial needs or to say thanks. He can be reached at
